Movie Story

Warner Brothers smashed it out of the park with this one. It’s an easy to like recipe for success, one that took advantage of the 3D graphics trend, added the timeless Lego toy, forged a list of characters we all know and love and merged it all together in one wildly hilarious kinetic adventure. The Lego Movie nearly made it’s money back eight times over. And yes, the sequel is on the way.

The two directors – Phil Lord and Chris Miller – were in charge of Jump Street and the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs franchises. Both relied on humour. And one was a computer animated series. It was meant to be. A match made in heaven.

Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy and the Jurassic Park reboot) plays the ordinary man mistaken for an extraordinary being. Suddenly he is the key to saving the world. He gets himself caught up with a ragtag team of do gooders – Channing Tatum as Superman, Will Arnett as Batman, Jonah Hill as the Green Lantern, the list goes on – trying to stop the evil President Business (Ferrell).

Batman and Good Cop/Bad Cop (Liam Neeson) really shined for me but the characters each get their time onscreen and the quips and cheeky comments come thick and fast. There is a beautifully rendered use of Lego which, melded with the CGI, makes for an incredibly unique look. It’s colourful and thoughtful stuff all throughout. Wonderfully visual and stylised with flair, The Lego Movie ticks all the boxes as a quirky and intelligent movie suitable for kid and adult alike.

It’s a perfectly balanced and inspiring film showcasing just what can be done when the right tools meet the right ideas.

Great movie, with an all-star cast. The story is unique, and heartfelt – which I have to admit surprised me somewhat. The jokes are an excellent blend of clever and obvious. Great for kids and adults alike! The only downside might be that the theme song is sure to get stuck in your head.

The best-animated film I have seen in ages. Imaginative and superbly funny demanding the viewers to either avoid laughing (very unlikely) or watch the LEGO movie again so as to get all the amazing sight and amiable jokes sliding past the first time. It is an original delight.

The Lego Movie is a film that really snuck up on me and will make me think twice about films I write off as geared towards children. The camera work and animation are top notch and worth seeing the movie on those merits alone, it’s fun to watch all the different things happening on screen, and it’s layered for multiple viewings.

This could easily be classified as the best animated movie I have seen in my entire lifetime. This movie has it all. The camera work is absolutely awesome, I don’t need to emphasize on the animation because the quality of animation exhibited here is just extraordinary. This movie is so amazing to watch!

Heartfelt and hilarious in equal measure, The Lego Movie is a love-letter to childhood imagination. With the help of an all-star cast, Phil Lord and Chris Miller have crafted a film both simple enough for children and clever enough for adults.
